Every time they try, that gives us more ammo.
So those are the main fronts - there are others that critters are talking about, I am also looking for other things we can do.
But no, TLDR we don't need to do anything illegal, and there are levers we can pull to enact change <3
We want that to spiral in a way that Paypal can't control. We want them to go to a journalist and try to explain the difference between Game of Thrones and Vile: Exhumed in a way that doesn't sound like fucking nonsense.
They can't. There's no good way for them to do that.
We want normal people genuinely hesitating before they buy a violent video game and thinking, "would Paypal ban me for buying this?"
We want normal people looking at a "check out with Paypal" button and wondering if it's safe to click on. We want that mainstream. We want everyone worrying about it.
And this has to be connected to popular media that is already popular in order to get disconnected non-furry and SFW artists and consumers to realize, "holy shit we are losing a LOT of culture that I care about"
Because we are! That's not a lie.
Making this a mainstream problem is really good.
Do I think something identical to Game of Thrones is going to get banned that a normal person wants to watch? Absolutely!
Game of Thrones is bannable under their current rules. It just is.
We are not lying when we say that. We are telling 100% the truth.
They don't want the threat of legislation. They'll back down if they realize that poking us creates a narrative that they can't control and that gets out of control.
This is why I heavily encourage talking about stuff like Game of Thrones. Do I think Paypal is going to outright ban it? No!
All of this relates back to - payment processors need to be afraid of regulation. They need to be afraid of us. We've got them to the point where they're angry with us - that's a good step. Now we increase pressure (legally!) until they're scared.
They don't want politicans to talk about them.
On contacting representatives, we are not hoping that legislation gets through that fixes the issue (that is unlikely to happen under the current US administration). However, we are hoping to kill bad legislation (and there's plenty to protest), and we are hoping make politicians comment on this.
Yes, contact paypros and contact representatives (I'll get to them). Yes, spread the news yourself.
But also.. we need to makes as easy for sites to cover as the anti-porn groups do. We need to pay attention to how news shapes narrative and realize that we can influence news sites too.
So this is an area where we want to be polite, helpful, non-antagonistic - but we want to be regularly contacting reporters and writing to news sites and updating them on the situation and telling them that we want to see coverage of this.
This is something I have not seen emphasized.
