Just install Linux Mint or Kubuntu. Both have Windows like interfaces, are very stable and good support.
I personally have set two people up with Kubuntu who just didn’t want windows anymore and are not tech people and they have loved it.

As others have stated, this is not out of character for the US historically and I think recognizing that is the first step to combatting it. I mean, Hitler looked to the genocide of Indigineous Americans and the project of Manifest destiny for inspiration for the Holocaust and Lebensraum
