It's so easy for us to forget what it was like to find old media.
You start with what you like as a kid...let's say Star Wars. Then you find out it was inspired by Flash Gordon and Kurosawa and Dune and you branch out on your own to find these deeper dives and develop your own palate.

I re-read Rogue Moon twenty years after my first read, only to find that all I loved about that book makes up about twenty to thirty pages and the rest was just one giant dick measuring contest between some of the worst characters ever... 0_0

I don't even remember there being a sex scene (somehow my brain plots out a lot of that stuff I find, I have been told that The Horse Whisperer - novel - has one, I my mind legit draws a blank on there being one). :)

Am an avid lover of Clarke, but I got into SF by reading... Brian Daley's Han Solo first, because that spoke to kid me.
Now they are telling me, and me still behind with setting up the ritual...

The Rama sequels were such a huge disappointment to me...
Wyndham had his moments, too, like there's a passage in Day of the Triffids in which the lead can't imagine a woman becoming a doctor, and don't read Consider Her Ways, because that story is tropey in all the wrong ways.
Follow up with The Plague Dogs for full effectiveness. :)
