The US murder rate in 2024 was likely down nearly 30 percent relative to 2020 and down nearly 50 percent relative to 1990.
I too think it is phones - especially social media. Everything being bite sized makes it hard to concentrate on long form. Even though reading long form is almost always rewarding it’s tough to motivate oneself to do it compared to pre-social media days.
