Donald Trump and Republicans are pushing illegal maps that violate the Voting Rights Act.

Instead, Congress should pass fair, independent maps nationwide. Without that, Democratic states must consider all the options to protect our constitutional republic.

  1. What if Blue States vow to DENY any and all tax revenue to the Government.

No taxation without representation. We already fought this war.

  2. Pay attention to Senators in the Republican Party attempting to move into Governor seats. Tommy Tuberville, Marsha Blackburn. Alabama and Tennessee. Nancy Mace in S.C. There's a political restructuring in the south. Senators shifting to positions of Governors for control of state military forces.

  3. Come on, congress is not going to pass anything “fair” on any account as fascists and fascist enablers have all the power.

And blue states should have already begun the process of redistricting which takes times to redraw maps, pass it through state legislatures etc. You know this, we all know it.

  4. Gerrymander the heck out of Illinois, Mr. Pritzker! Nobody is playing by the rules anymore, so its time to play hardball against those who would happily destroy the republic for power and money-grabs. Make Illinois an ALL BLUE STATE!! #endthegop

  5. Thank you, Gov. JB Pritzker, for leading, showing how it’s done and standing firm in the fray.

  6. Isn't it true that Congress passed, and LBJ signed, an. Act that was completely unconstitutional in each and every one of its sections, and then pretended it was 'landmark?'

  7. The flaw here is at Congress at this point would never pass fair independent maps. They would be gerrymandered.

  8. Federal districts should be drawn by computer. GIS software is sophisticated enough to divide any area into a number of districts with roughly equal populations.

  9. I wish all states playing by the rules. The GOP leadership will NEVER pass fair, independent congressional districts.Democrats MUST be aligned through democratic led states to go toe to toe, fire 🔥 with fire, understand there are NO limits, no rules in this game. There is NO time to waste Dems.

  10. I think each state should have an independent office, equal # of Dems & Rep. to redistrict maps after a census has been done to changing communities to have fair voting for candidates.

  11. Dems need to stop this bullshit about “playing by the rules,” or “doing the right thing,” or what “should happen” for unbiased districting. Dems have sat around FOR YEARS doing NOTHING while the GOP has gerrymandered like crazy. The time is NOW for Dems to go SCORCHED EARTH in reciprocating.

  12. Until congress passes a new voting rights act, maybe blue states need to update their voter rolls too

  13. Agreed. And therefore, Democrats need to weaponize gerrymandering at least as intensely as Republican have for the past 15 years (see 2020 RedMap) to get enough House seats to pass such legislation.

  14. There are a bunch of very worried Republicans from California and New York who seem to want to do that, so maybe they can encourage their co-workers to see the light? I honestly doubt it, but there is a tiny glimmer of hope.

  15. We need a constitutional amendment creating an independent commission tasked with drawing fair congressional district maps. Having Congress create a department for this purpose isn’t enough because, as we’ve seen, SCOTUS can simply dismantle a department that they deem unconstitutional.

  16. Congress should end the electoral college. That fixes gerrymandering forever.

  17. Not ideal coming from the Gov. of IL, but the fact is- they go low this time around & we gotta go even lower….

  18. Democrats should gerrymander the hell out of their states! If the GOP can steal the Supreme Court, then we can steal the House! Fix it all later when sanity returns and if it doesn’t, then at least we aren’t without any power!

  19. Have you and your team put together a strategy to redistrict the state of IL ?

If not you post is an empty boast, just another politician trying to sound good without actually doing anything

  20. Think of it this way when a mug pulls a gun on you you’re allowed to pull a gun back. You don’t know if they’re gonna stop with their wallet they may take your life for the fun of it. You have an obligation to you to defend your life. In this case we are defending democracy itself.

  22. Isn’t a violation for the voting rights act something that the Democrats are supposed to be doing something substantive about?

  23. How could this happen? Doesn’t the Constitution say that voting regulations are up to the states?

    1
  24. Democrats already support proposals to end gerrymandering.

We will have these laws as soon as Republicans also support them.

Republicans will support them as soon as gerrymandering works against them.

    1
  25. 💯 but Congress won’t do it as currently embodied and the current actors know that SCOTUS won’t uphold the VRA. They’ve teed themselves up the perfect coup.

  26. If we knew this storm was coming would we not have made our laws just while we had the power to do so. If Trump has anything to offer our nation other than pacifying the nuts and robbing the till, it is that we never ever fall asleep believing that justice will prevail because you elected Democrats.

  27. Mr. Pritzker is rapidly becoming OUR voice for sanity, for democracy, for the rule of law, and the Constitution.

His voice carries a long way.

  29. Eliminate the electoral college. One person, one vote, nationwide (or state wide for two senators), count them up. ELIMINATE THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE. It doesn’t take care of state races or the House. But goes a long way for the presidency and Senate

  30. We can't let him retain all the branches. We at least need a choke point in the House or the Senate.

  32. Don’t hesitate. Go ahead and pass a new map in IL. Don’t wait to see what the other side does or is/isn’t going to do.

We can work on curbing gerrymandering down the road.

  33. We would need a whole lot more Democrats in there,JB! Keep telling us sensible solutions. Instead of what we have now…

  34. New York and California should follow Texas's suit and redistrict to offset the illegal gains the GOP are trying to make.

Add just enough to keep it the same and fair.

  35. Congress won’t do anything useful. Better: State-by-state “baseball salary arb.”: Each party proposes a plan, a ltribunal of fed. judges MUST choose one plan — secret ballot, no changes.

This forces each party to be rsnbl, lest tribunal pick other plan.

Great track record in bball, elsewhere.

  36. Do it JB don't give them a chance to think their next move and Democrats left holding the bag THE TIME IS NOW

  37. These gerrymanders in TX are illegal racial gerrymanders. Isn't the best tool we have to fight back suing, coupled with a protest movement at the supreme court?

Shouldn't we dare the supreme court to make its ruling against the clear letter of the law? What should protesters at 1 First Street do?

    1
  38. Thanks JB for standing up for democracy. Proud that I live in Illinois.

  39. When the home team Referees keep moving the goal post further down the field. What is the away team supposed to do? They walked off the field with middle fingers high. We’re not going to play your crooked game. PEDOPHILE PROTECTORS REPUBLICANS ALWAYS try and find a way to cheat.

  40. The Republicans will never pass anything that is fair and just. They are cowards and traitors to America. They only way to codify the voting rights will be in Congress but that will only happen if everyone votes the Republicans OUT.

    0
  41. A Republican led Congress will not pass fair maps nationwide. The GOP lies, cheats and steals to keep their seats. They don't play by the rules. It's time for Democrats to fight fire with fire. Beat them at their own damn game.

  42. The United States was not a democratic constitutional republic until you were a few months old

Not until the voting rights act and the reapportionment cases

The Republican attempt to tear down our democratic republic makes extraordinary responses necessary

  43. How about talking to Senator Blumenthal & tell him to get off his high horse & fight the GOP at the only level they understand! He needs to take off his kid gloves & fight at the same level the GOP fight. People are dying & disappearing, but he doesn’t want to stoop to the Republican level! 🤬 WTF!!!

  44. Congress doing anything “fair” ain’t gonna happen. Do a state Dem gerrymander whether GOP backs down or not. Otherwise, kiss this country goodbye.

“Playing by the rules” in a dictatorship is insanity.

    1
  45. Good luck w Congress doing that. IMHO, what Congress should/could enact is to define rules for apportionment such that extreme gerrymandering is outlawed. Essential to that is an enforcement mechanism with fines and jail time. No ambiguities anywhere in it.

  46. I’m not sure Congress is the authority to make maps. However, they should pass a law requiring some fairness/knowledge in the process. We had an independent commissioner. They did okay. First election we flipped into Democratic control, first time in nearly 40 years.
