People keep blaming the rise of fascism on the books women are reading but you know what I think the real cause is?

Giving stupid people's opinions the same merit and consideration as the experts.

Replies

  1. But women are to blame for everything men do. (/s incase you mistake me for someone who actually believes this)

  2. Fascism doesn’t rise because of books; it rises when expertise is ignored and every opinion is treated as equally valid, regardless of evidence or reasoning.

    • graendoll, anonymous person provides their (apparently not stupid) opinion to other people, suggesting they’re an expert, does not recognize their obtuse hypocrisy.

  3. "Women reading books are to blame for the rise of fascism" is the equivalent of a "look what you made me do" excuse by abusers.

Educated women not catering to (mostly) men's desires turns the men into Fascists?!? Perhaps those men were just disguised Fascists all along, now discarding their masks.

  5. I think there IS merit in considering stupid people's opinions, because knowing why they believe stupid stuff helps us better understand how to make them not believe in stupid stuff someday.

  6. "TV puts everybody in those boxes, side-by-side. On one side, there's this certifiable lunatic who says the Holocaust never happened. And next to him is this noted, honored historian who knows all about the Holocaust. And now, there they sit, side-by-side, they look like equals!" Eddie Langston 2006

  7. If more poor Americans had access to free education and if learning wasn't so stigmatized, our uninformed young voters wouldn't have flocked to Trump so much, either.

More books. Listen to the experts!

That's why scientists are fleeing, too. Books can't hurt you. Ignorance is how they rob you.

President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

  8. And the media again giving Trump unlimited air time when they know he’s lying. Journalism demands that they call out his lies, and yet they don’t. They normalize his behavior. Disgusting.

  9. Anyway, that reminds me, I have a pickup waiting for me at the bookstore, which incidentally is my "place where everybody knows your name".

  10. Ok It is brown people. Black people. Women reading books. Gay people being happy.Education. Health Care. Food. Got it. You are right. It is the stupid people

  11. that's like saying one side is stupid whereas a minority has some supremely superior intellect. i don't like it.

i prefer to do an allpass and acknowledge that i too am stupid, in place of whatever else this message could mean.

    (who knows???!) 😀

  12. but, how do we deal with having more stupid people than experts? they think somehow knowledge is of such a nature that it can, or in some cases should, be overruled by the mere beliefs of a majority. it's gross.

  13. There is a cult of ignorance in the US, there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge'. 14. EXACTLY.... that's why we REALLY have to pay attention to the BULLSHIT the "old guard" of the Dimocratic Party are going to start spewing ...talk about re-writing History watch these fuckers start trying to convince you that Joe Biden wasn't responsible for the Fascist takeover of America....HE WAS!

  15. Yeah, the real issue is the media pretending there's two sides to every argument. Some people just argue. Idiocy

  16. For real, for some reason TV/the news decided to take the equal time rule to apply to more than just political candidates. If there is a conspiracy about anything, it has to have equal time as the truth... such nonsense. And then politicians take these stances and help spread them like the plague.

  17. The books women are reading - this is hilarious. I hadn’t heard that one. Have they looked at the bestsellers list? We want dragons. Not fascism. 🐉

  18. It is more complicated than can be expressed in 300 characters. However, average human intelligence plays a role.

  19. We were given the gift of the internet and we trashed it. We all have access to massive repositories of knowledge and instead too many promote idiots.

  20. The delegitimatization of expertise was a deliberate strategy to let radio blow hards and evangelical clergy carry the same "weight" as scientists.

  21. If you read about fascism you are educated if you read about mental illness you are educated and if have lived with someone with dementia you recognize it and the orange guy is all three

  22. 100% Dumb people being promoted was the dowmfall of the internet. Conservatives buying out or dominating social media was when that shot started and honestly.. We were fine with forums

  23. It's the dark side of inclusion: anybody can pull any nonsense out of thin air and we all have to give it credence. If it's nonsense, it should be dealt with as such.

That and more other factors. Rushing in the age of acceptance without a plan backfired.

  28. It is, and I'll never understand why the supposed "defenders" of liberalism and democracy went along with... oh? Ratings were good? So they got more money and donations for pretending liars and morons had good points? Yeah, I guess that makes sense.

  29. the huge amount of funding the right wing gets from capitalists for pushing deregulation and tax cuts, and organized religious boosting of conservative causes, and white racial fear of being outnumbered

  30. the cause is inequality. Hitler was trying to be a painter. but couldnt afford to live. So he joins in with the other men that couldn’t afford to live. Hate isnt hard to find if thats all you’re society leaves you with. See history without you’re own biases and you see groups fighting each other

  31. Why would anybody, who can actually link two thoughts together, believe that the books women are reading are the cause of the rise of fascism?

    0
  32. So, all those super happy, anti-fascist, democratic-socialist nations have instituted a ban on women reading books?

    Who knew?

    0
  33. That may be where we went wrong, yes. Same with the open- minded, open-hearted faith communities not calling the ultra-RW Christians the heretics and Fascists they really are.

  35. I wholeheartedly agree. Fascism should never be given a platform, let alone handed that platform on a silver platter, under the guise of "freedom" of speech. Fascism is viral in nature and once allowed to be in legitimate ethical and moral conversations, it immediately begins to "hapsberg" society.

  36. People use the internet and “educate” themselves to their own detriment!!

  37. There has been a disproportionate emphasis on college over experience, trade & technical training.

This has created inefficient education and a backlash against higher education.

BA / BS degrees are unsuitable for most people. Forcing them creates backlash. Only execs & educators need them.

  38. Who blames the rise of fascism on the books women are reading?

I don't see too many females marching under the swastika. Just a bunch of lame-ass men who are too embarrassed and insecure to march without masks.
