Well what number do you multiply by itself to get -4? 🤔
-
Well, I suspect you don't live near enough to do in person. 😀
What sort of game are you after? Bit of Mork Borg?

Like an in person or an online game?

And let me be clear -- I wish on JK Rowling everything that she wishes upon trans people.

I’m back! I saw your messages on here & elsewhere—thank you all <3. I’m deeply disappointed in @bsky.app moderation; equating pushback against people like JKR with the harm they cause to trans ppl only enables more violence. I’ll talk more soon but even a day away from social media has been healthy.

So in normal play for a non optimised party, 6 PCs, evenly split are doing 6 actions per turn.
So vs the "Hasbro standard" of 4 non-optimised PCs. A boss is doing 5 actions vs 4.
In my experience? 5 actions vs 18. My "fix" changes that to 7 and neutralises up to 6 PC actions. (Total 13).

Use an action, a bonus action and a reaction, every turn. So that's what? 3 spells per round, and up to 4 attacks by level 5.
A tier 1 party of 6 PCs with 3 casters and 3 martials does ~ 9 spells and up to 9 attacks per round. 18 "actions".
A "boss" will do say 2 attacks and 3 legendary. 5

After each player turn for solo monsters. Legendary resistances should be number of players -1 (but give some thought to describing the visuals of the ability physically decaying. Gems darkening, scales dropping etc).
Also consider your party. My players tend to know the rules so they

So: at Hasbro where they run 5e DnD and the new edition, 5e DnD (2024) they don't have big parties. They run 1 GM and 4 PCs. I know this because otherwise their balance is wrong.
So: up your legendary actions, to the number of players -1 for boss monsters. Or better, just have them act, /1
RPG tip: Balance character to enemy actions (known as the action economy) for challenging fights.
