  1. NEW: On Friday, a gunman shot up the CDC campus in Atlanta. He reportedly believed himself injured by the COVID-19 vaccine.

The following day, NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya appeared on Steve Bannon’s War Room and called to end the mRNA platform while promoting misinformation about the shots.

  2. The NIH Director appearing in a video attacking mRNA vaccines the day after a gunman attacked the CDC driven by antivax conspiracy theories is not a good look. It is disrespectful to our CDC colleagues and the NIH employees who work at CDC offices. It also makes NIH employees feel less safe.

  3. If you'd like to offer comments on the misleading & error-ridden US federal report, "Critical Review of Impacts of Greenhouse Gas Emissions on the U.S. Climate," the link to do so is below.

Comments are due by Sept 2. Pls see next post for links to resources that debunk the claims in this report.

  4. Translation for 🧪 folks:

Vought has been illegally covering up how he’s withholding appropriated $ from NIH, NSF, etc., an appeals court ruled.

The illegal coverup here = hiding data on how OMB/Vought is sending $ to agencies (called “apportionments”)

  5. There are going to be fewer patients at the clinical center when they are detaining and calling ICE on patients trying to come to the clinical center www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/...

NIH officials called immigration authorities after scrutinizing the patient’s identification presented to security at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center.

  6. Exclusive: CDC Director Susan Monarez met with its vaccine-focused center to talk about yesterday’s shooting. I listened to a recording. Scientists and officials are shaken & pointing fingers at RFK Jr. Many said his vilification and misinfo turned them into targets. www.msnbc.com/opinion/anal...

CDC Director Susan Monarez convened an online all-hands meeting of the agency division that focuses on vaccines, and employees called out Kennedy’s rhetoric specifically.

A deadly shooting at the CDC shook its scientists. Now they want answers from RFK Jr.

  7. I've found that one of the best ways to resist attacks on science is to continue doing science. To that end, here's my new preprint studying the differences between type ii topoisomerases, some of the best targets for antibacterials, to help guide the development of new and better antibacterials 🧪

The type II topoisomerases, gyrase and topoisomerase IV, are essential enzymes in nearly all bacteria and are the targets of fluoroquinolones, which are some of the most widely prescribed broad-spectr...
