The only AC Transit lines that are as good or better than 10 years ago are the bus lines touching UC Berkeley and the International Blvd bus. Why? Because UC is subsidizing Cal student passes, ergo, guaranteeing ridership. In other words, subsidies for bus service fuel better service.

  1. Tempo is also effectively subsidized too. One reason why it has the highest ridership in the system. It was promotional fare-free for a while and has remained defacto fare free.

Tempo collects on average 40 cent per-ride compared to system-wide average of $1.25 per-ride
