Maar België heeft het cordon sanitair - een afspraak onder alle partijen dat niemand met het Vlaams Belang regeert. En dat heeft de normalisatie van extreem-rechts sterk afgeremd. Het meest akelige in NL op dit moment is niet meer Wilders an sich, maar de normalisatie van extreemrechts in den brede.

vandaag vroeg een collega me of het in België op dit moment minder erg is [in de politiek]. Ik weet niet of politicologen het hier mee eens zijn, maar mijn antwoord was: Vlaanderen heeft ook al decennia een hoop extreem-rechts; toen ik student was hebben we zo vaak tegen het VB gedemonstreerd.

Ik bekeek zijn twitter-tijdlijn die er rechts-conservatief uitziet, maar verder vooral over Groningen gaat. Vond alleen een tweet pro-nederlands als wetenschapstaal.

Thanks😊 I'm hoping that if people approach this topic with an open mind, and see all the reasons against wealth concentration, it will be obvious that this makes no sense at all. It's harmful, it's wasteful, it's not needed for innovation, etc. We just have it because of power dynamics & ideology.

It sucks majorly because (1) this is precisely what fascists want - that those who oppose them stay away, and (2) I would have loved to have more debates with US-citizens on the harms of wealth concentration, hence #Limitarianism.
The independent press is all that is left to make that bridge. 🙏

Tonight I declined another invitation to travel to the US.
I still remember sitting on this plane on February 20th, and feeling very worried but also sad - strongly sensing that it would soon be obvious that it would be better not to return to the USA for some years (hopefully just a few years!).
I’m in an airplane in Chicago about to take off for a flight to Europe. Perhaps I might not return before political decency has been restored. It has been absolutely wild what has happened over the last month in the US… wishing all its residents and citizens the courage to fight evil. ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿✊
