Pirates of the Caribbean 2 is not a good movie but that water wheel scene is one of the best choreographed action scenes of all time. It has like 12 separate beats and they're all gold.

One of the fun things about watching MST3K as an adult with a better understanding of the craft is that you'll be watching a very poorly made movie, laughing along with it, then every so often there'll be a shot or scene or narrative moment where you're just like, "Oh, wait, that's actually golden."
-
one of your worst takes
-
some of the shit in those first few pirates movies makes me feel like errol flynn was resurrected for a couple years in the 2000s
-
I will die on the hill of dead man’s chest being a damn good movie.
-
pirates 2 was one of the best ones what are you on about
-
definitely the worst in the trilogy, but really just one HUGE setup for 3 to demolish in the most positive sense
-
On repeat viewings it hasn't held up well at all, but I still remember this as the most fun Ive ever had in the theater
-
Unfortunately it is one of my favorites
-
What's the opposite of that "a broken clock is right twice a day" saying? Because I really feel the need to use it right now
-
I like the soundtrack, Hans Zimmer killed it with this film.
-
Someone watched Princess Bride and took it as a challenge.

The Liar's Dice scene alone makes 2 a more than worthy sequel. It shows the character conflicts in a scene instead of telling, to where even if you have no idea how Liar's Dice works, you still know enough to know how great of a scene it is.
-
It’s the runt of the original trilogy but it definitely has a handful of scenes that feel transcendent in exactly the proper way
-
I want whatever those writers were smoking
-
Not a good movie??
-
truly the matrix reloaded freeway chase of pirate movies
-
Everyone mad at me for saying 2 is bad when my actual contentious take is that 3 is the better sequel and delivers more of what I want!! I made a Nebula vid about it a while ago nebula.tv/videos/jacob...

Reading the first part hurt my soul. I have have a strong love for the first four Pirates of the Caribbean movies. That aside, yes! The water wheel scene is awesome
-
Tbh I tuned out after the first 10 words but this scene is so electric I love it
-
it's very unique and whimsical, but cmon man. no.
-
the best thing about PotC is they licensed a Tim Powers book (On Stranger Tides), which was definitely a big payday for him, then made the film unrecognizably unrelated to the book so he didn't have to see a mangled half-revenant of the original book on screen
-
i only remember that scene so it's a good movie to me
-
This entire sequence lives in my mind and I have no problem with that.
-
Is it better than the blacksmith fight from the first movie? That's the one I always go back to
-
the second movie is the build up to the third, which is the best
-
Might not be good, but it’s great.
-
idk the part where they have Davy Jones stand in a bucket is sheer comedy
-
counterpoint: the first three potc are god's perfect trilogy
-
Everyone I've ever talked to in person about Pirates has insisted that Pirates 2 was really great, which makes me feel like the crazy one for thinking it was very mid, especially on the heels of the first one.
-
Pirates sequels are the same as Jurassic Park/World sequels for me. Never good, but so much fun
-
The Pirates sequels are 30% excellent, clear action choreography and 70% someone reading lore from a Word doc
-
Davy Jones was my Darth Vader growing up, such a beautifully written, visually impressive character that I adore to death, he deserves to be more iconic than he is. Definitely one of the best parts of the pirate sequels, alongside a scattershot of wonderful action set pieces like the waterwheel
-
Look the Pirates of the Caribbean movies don't do much for me story wise after the first one but goddamn are they entertaining. There's no way a series like it would get approved with the budgets they ran to get that spectacle, and so I love them all the more for it!
-
The water wheel fight has been in my top five favorite action scenes for years, something about it just checks every single box for me. Hell the Bone Zorb from earlier in the movie also does it for me.

Sorry jacob, but I'm now forced to use the orbital space rod satellite weapon to strike your exact location. If you could please press "enable gps" when the pop-up on your device appears so we know where to strike, that'd be hugely appreciated. Thanks.

Take it back Jacob
