I'm always, ALWAYS, the latter. My mouse now knows where to go by itself ... possibly the greatest invention of all time! It starts slowly, then moves up, to the left, clicking on that folder. I smile and say, "Good mouse. Very good mouse."

  2. Don't know how many times I've been burnt in Baldur's Gate 3, thinking I had an autosave, only to find it was like 20-30 minutes ago after a wipe in a fight. Now I find myself quick saving so often, and sometimes doing manual saves on top of that.

  3. I always save at least twice in a row even though that doesn't make a difference. You gotta make sure the game knows you saved, even if you already did lol.

  4. I was at the boss fight for twilight princess. My save file was first slot. My sis was also playing. She and I went to switch off and she asked me to save her game as she left the room. In my muscle memory and haste I saved her file right over mine.

  5. It only takes one instance of the computer glitching while you're working on something major to turn someone into a compulsive saver.

  6. Hitting quicksave every 5 steps just in case there is encounter behind the next corner. Also forgetting you saved so just quicksaving once again.

  7. Mine stems from working on 90s PCs that only had enough ram for 3 backsteps in photoshop ... I don't miss those days!

  8. It’s a good habit to maintain, especially if you go to play retro games without autosaves.

  9. I wish that I was a compulsive saver (working on saving frequently), and I end up getting so into a drawing that I forget. Unintentionally, yet intentionally living life on the edge 😭

  10. Yeah autosave is hit and miss in a lot of games, wish more like how it was done in Alien Isolation where auto save points were common but a regular save point was always in reach.

Anyone who was around for the early MSOffice years knows the pain of losing a few hours work in a flash.

Those years before autosave were very dark and dangerous times.

  12. Auto save will take me back to seconds before I beat the challenging obstacle and I will do worse every time after

  13. I will save scum to the point I've locked myself out of certain options. Literally saved so hard I got Wrex killed in Mass Effect (didn't do his loyalty mission soon enough) and suffocated myself over and over in Metro.

  14. I’ve been this way since the first #MetalGearSolid on the OG #Playstation memory cards!

  15. i had a game corrupt my save once. it was persona 4 on the ps3, apparently the ps2 emulator on ps3 was so bad on the playstation store that it would delete your save files

i still don't double save my games or make backups

  16. Depends on the game for me. Some are dependable, like platformers or GTA. But some, I’ll never let them get the chance! Like Fallout!

  17. Always twice. Then sometimes I quit the game and load back in just to verify it did indeed save, even though if it didn’t I’m out of luck anyways.

  18. The amount of dragons that I've slain 17 times in a row (instead of just once), because I didn't quick save after slaying said dragon is embarrassing.

    #Skyrim

    Yes, still playing in 2024!

  19. I was told I could have multiple saves on Skyrim but my new game overrode my old one and I still haven't recovered 10 years later. I will always manually save 2 or 3 times from now on 😭

  20. Locally, to the cloud, and for important things once a day on a USB stick. Back in training I lost nearly a week worth of work in a freak electrical surge that fried my desktop and for some reason my auto-backup got turned off. It was pre-cloud.

  21. Put some currency in ur mattress, they are canceling bank accounts already, for dubious reasons. Cancelled one on a 4 H girl, she earned the money selling her prize rabbits. Arizona . Look it up . Just FYI

As someone who played PC games in the 90s, I can never trust autosaves and always rotate at least 10 manual save slots, just in case. Never needed now but I can’t help it.

  23. Aye, honestly I'm glad Dragon Quest does that whole organ piece when saving, helps it stick in my brain that I saved

  24. Back in the 80’s when I was a wee lad writing programs in basic, we had a saying. β€œJesus saves often you should too” and I’ve applied that to gaming as well. I’ve had to delete saves to make room for more saves. I usually keep the first save for a level and delete all others at that level.

  25. I can relate... How lazy are you if you can't remember to save your work all by yourself? Does your mommy remind you to brush your teeth?

  26. Put it this way, I've almost tried to impulsively save a physical document on the table I'm writing on with a pen.

  27. I vary greatly on saving. Either it's frequent and disregard the auto save, or I forget saving is a concept. If it's a hard af game, I'm saving a lot. I refuse to be burned again by my mistakes.

Also, saving with a new file name in case the manual saves didn’t actually save.

  29. Guilty as well, the trauma of having so many hours of gameplay just casually erased....nope

Lol the worst was metal gear....3? The bad guy was mantis, and he was psychic and when you fight him he called me out for saving a lot.....blew my mind lol

  30. Recently I went back to play Skyrim and I decided to up the auto-save timer to 15 minutes.

The amount of progress I lost on my first death left me awestruck.
