This is why I argue to critics of comic books/movies that they are our modern myths serving a similar purpose to those they supplanted. Heracles, Theseus et al. and their adventures may not be widely known anymore but those of Superman, Batman, Spiderman and so on are familiar on a global scale.

"We crave authenticity" and that Superman is "human", but by definition superheroes are not real and they are not human. It is all just a fantasy, that doesn't provide agency, but instead focuses on those who have more "abilities" and who we hope will save us, which is not going to happen.
