  1. And on the flip side, if your job does provide insurance, you're pretty much trapped there, regardless of bad pay, because for many people losing that coverage isn't an option.

    But of course, public medical assistance is being eliminated now, so those people will just go into medical bankruptcy.

  2. Having been on government assistance, I can tell you people don't want to be dependent on it, but it becomes a trap. There's no realistic means to climb out of the hole.

    For example, if your job(s) don't provide insurance, which part time largely don't, then your only option is public assistance.

  3. Hmm, seems you're missing the point yourself. People are making sacrifices to make ends meet, it's causing them to buy packaged ultra-processed foods instead of fresh healthy ingredients, because those processed foods are cheaper, and often because they also lack the time to cook properly.

  4. Oh, you have a local library? Lucky you. Isn't it so nice that your government has provided a free service for the benefit of the general public.

    That's not the case for everyone, and it's getting less common as funding for public resources like that keep getting cut back and cut back.

  5. Gerrymandering has been persistent in states of both affiliations, but it's been generally understood that the people hate it and courts frown on it, so a certain degree of subtlety has been used.

    Until now, we're in mask-off election rigging, and it's Texas that's broken that seal.
