I think that's the crux of it. It makes being vulnerable at all prohibitively risky. I don't just mean, like, opening yourself up to friendship - even acquaintanceship requires some amount of vulnerability, obviously far less, but it's still there!
Like, professional Reddits that everyone can read are a real double-edged sword: people can spread useful knowledge but also outsiders see what people "really" think about them & it often makes them reluctant to ask for help!
