This isn’t correct —the current system is just as susceptible, because removed the electors discretion.
We currently use a popular vote system, the president is chosen as a direct result of the votes, we just run it thru a functionally arbitrary reweighting algorithm.
One obvious risk here is that a popular vote would actually reward parties for demagogic mass politics and extremism, although I think that worry isn’t nearly enough to oppose a popular vote system. There are just a lot of unknowns, though.

Something nobody ever does: compare eg California’s share of electoral votes to its share of eligible voters. (Hint: almost identical)
I guess the REALLY controversial position is that the structural benefits of abolishing the electoral college aren't necessarily enormous, since most of the time the popular vote winner wins the electoral college too. I mean, we should 100% do it. But 2024 still goes Trump, obviously.

Doubly odd because he didn’t even win the popular vote. He won a plurality. More Americans who voted chose someone else than chose Trump.

A lot of online leftists see themselves as the downtrodden proletariat, but are really middle class (maybe with low incomes atm, but because of youth not class).
So actual lower class wage increases just meant higher service costs for their middle class spending - and they were furious

The reason @brianbeutler.bsky.social and others can see clearly what the MSM misses is simple: he doesn’t talk himself out of the obvious.
The president obviously fired the BLS head for publishing unfavorable stats. But of course a president would never do that. “The emperor wouldn’t be naked”

Comcast one on a similar argument in front of SCOTUS a decade or so back. See it doesn’t violate Sherman act bc they’re not competing because cable service is a local market so if they divide up territories they’re not competing in a market

MAGA’s real core ethic is like uncut cocaine to elites: the notion that great power DOES NOT come with great responsibility.
-
I think the unifying vision is simple: “250 years after the Revolution the royalist are back. We gotta stop em”
-
I remember some poll came out that young people didn’t want to be roommates with a MAGA person. The MSM did their “intellectual intolerance” but when obvi it’s just MAGA’s core ethic is “be a giant selfish asshole to everyone and never apologize for it” and that just sucks to live with
