The position of critic isn’t about just reviewing but about the pulse of our culture and the fewer of these jobs there are the less our society has people reading and engaging with the world.
I once looked up to you and Wesley at the Globe. I had many discussions at the college newspaper about your writing and reviews and thoughts), and I’m saddened that so few people will get this kind of experience and fewer will be able to write critically like you two did. It meant a lot.
The thing I learned as a new teacher is that parents don’t do that.
I have a very good pitch that has received a lot of “this is good, but I can’t afford to do it or figure out how to sell it to the higher ups” and I say this because it took a long time to write this idea (a month) and then it became a hot topic almost over night a week or so ago.
Just out here pitching and dying because who knows what anyone wants anymore.
The important thing here is the “do any real work”. So many bosses and higher-ups read or hear something and say, “yeah, do that,” without researching or thinking about how it works or what it does. The easiest example to look at was the “pivot to video” in media.
