Because this is a completely safe issue for Republicans. 100% of GOP voters believe Democrat run cities are crime-infested hellscapes because they've had nightly fear programming on right-wing media for decades. To them, this is Trump's ride-in-on-a-white-horse to save America moment.

What drives me crazy about this is it’s just easy to obfuscate crime numbers for rural areas because we don’t track them the way we do in cities. Many rural areas have shockingly high crime rates
