Unusual language here in the New York Times’ claim that the Trump administration is trying to “reshape institutions that it views as cathedrals of liberalism.” What is the definition of a “cathedral of liberalism” and what right does Trump have to “reshape” it?

The Trump administration has largely targeted elite private universities in recent parts as part of what it has depicted as a campaign to fight antisemitism and reshape institutions that it views as cathedrals of liberalism.

  1. Rather than parroting Trump’s language—although I’m not sure that he has used the “cathedrals of liberalism” language, which, as somebody noted in the responses, evokes Curtis Yarvin—it is the job of the Times to scrutinize its efforts to destroy higher education without any legal predicate.
