  1. Centrist elites are out of touch elites. But they've been tricked into thinking that popular right-wing nuts are somehow in-touch. In reality the Tim Pools of the media are even more out of touch, they are just popular.

  2. Yes! In America at least it's this deeply racial assumption, shared very broadly including on the center left, that it's invalid for the left-of-center rainbow coalition to hold and exercise power unilaterally. You always need the permission of the True Volk

  3. reading CASTE now; it speaks directly to this phenomenon as part & parcel to the deep roots of the hierarchies entrenched in all our psyches. we're talking hundreds of years of racism, folks, which means that same kind of time for "non-elite" whites to keep themselves above blacks in their DNA.

  4. My mom and aunt went to college while my other relatives on that side didn't. They ended up (generally) living richer, healthier lives and helped out those in their family who weren't as fortunate.

Crucially they weren't ashamed of who they were – they went the extra mile and they were proud.

  5. It’s also infuriating as a person on the left from a rural area. We live here too! Why aren’t you pandering to us!? Pander to the rural queers and rural POC, if you must pander to rural areas at all! (I say this mostly joking, but goddamn).

  6. It's a weird mixture of believing the, in many cases, imagined, right-wing working class to be the true embodiment of the nation while having near total contempt for them in practice.

  7. ppl explain the speed with which institutions, pop culture etc lurched from wokeness to accommodation with fascism by saying it was all cynical, but surely this is also part of it, a self-hating ruling class that doesn't truly believe it has the right to rule and will acquiesce anyone who can

  8. One of the greatest tricks of the elites was to persuade the educated that they weren't as worthy as the person who worked with their hands. The con or scam of the "idea of a middle class" - Hate yourself, set yourself apart, definitely don't stand together as the workers you are. IMHO.

  9. I think the varieties of psychological and sociological reasons why people are susceptible all comes down to the racism. It undergirds and provides fertile ground for grievances on. Until this is actually brought to the surface and defeated, we’re doomed to these vicious cycles.
