I don't think enough people realize this: people leave tenured & t-t jobs to work at SI! curators have advanced degrees, do original research, publish, teach, mentor, AND do history that reflects and engages the entire nation! it's not just "exhibits" that are being reviewed, its scholarship.

Smithsonian, unlike large majority of museums, actually does things like visitor evaluation & exhibit development & has professional historians & writes labels in more than one step w/more than one person involved & has scholars around.

Update, 6:00 a.m. Wednesday:

The water level on Mendenhall River currently stands above 16 feet -- a new record for glacial outburst flood height.

The river reached major flood stage around 1 a.m. and is still forecast to peak between 8 a.m. and noon.
