There is no deal. Trump says he hopes and thinks there will be one. But not today.
They take no questions. This is…very unusual for Trump.
Let’s wait to see if anything emerges from what was discussed. But on the face of it, Alaska is much as predicted. Putin has got exactly what he wanted, the legitimacy conferred by a Trump meeting and seeing off sanctions. He has given the US very little, if anything, in return.

Alaska could still prove significant. Either because Trump has accepted Putin’s justifications and narratives and the threat of further American support for Ukraine goes away. Or because he feels like he’s been played and Putin is the block to peace. He certainly didn’t seem happy.

It would be good for reporters to ask Trump how he feels about being bested by Putin once again, and if he will keep putting up with Putin taking advantage of him.
