This is the same crap I hear about NYC. But I live near Central Park& walk my dog there daily. Nearly every American tourist we encounter, esp from Red States, say they're shocked how safe & friendly NYC is. Love the restaurants, shopping & ease of getting around; yes, the dreaded subway, too.
