"we don't need any humanities education" is also the position of much of the ROI Center and ROI Left (aka neoliberalism's position on higher ed). So they have allies.
There really is a tension between the "RETVRN to classical education" school of the contemporary American right-wing and the "we don't need any humanities education" school of the contemporary American right. And, unsurprisingly, the latter seem to be winning.

The lack of humanities education for the billionaire drop out cabal is indicative of the need for it. These amoral uneducated bros should have stayed in school and taken some courses to learn about how one becomes a human being participating in society. Or what the consequences are for not.
Sorry if this the the thousandth time you’ve heard this, but often humanities is the only avenue through which American students learn how to think critically and how to examine moral precepts. So of course they become anathema to a government that wants human widgets instead.
