  1. I should also add that the wait times were long at VA because the VA is notoriously UNDERSTAFFED thanks to republicans restricting budgets. Anyhow, we implemented the Choice Act and as we feared, it was way more expensive, was subpar, and actually had LONGER wait times than the VA in most cases. 6/

  2. That PURCHASED care was meant to be TEMPORARY. Why? Because private health providers could charge up to 115% of Medicare rates, and the care was often subpar compared to VA DIRECT care. So it was more expensive and shittier - but it was a good temporary solution to the wait list problem. 5/

  3. As you can imagine, getting that money allocated and spent to see the improvements would take a while, so the Choice Act also allowed Veterans to go to private health providers in their communities that the VA would pay for while we waited for the appropriations to catch up. 4/
