Uh, I hate to burst your nostalgia about cars from the 1980s, but they objectively sucked. Unreliable, terrible handling, slow, unsafe, noisy, and terrible build quality.
Car Talk was great I think we all agree, but it was great because everyone was constantly engaging in maintenance efforts that we just don't worry about today

Reliability is better, but another reason we don’t worry about them because we can’t do much of them anymore without access to proprietary software and tools. Car manufacturers have worked for years to design products that can’t be fixed by home mechanics.
