In New Jersey, the main reason cost of living is high doesn't really have anything to do with the strict economic calculations, it is mostly to do with services being provided on granular levels that add tons of bloat to the budget.

Yeah, so let’s sell people on municipal shared services and consolidation. I see politicians paying lip service but not embracing the big structural change required to fix these things.

(Also the rent is too damn high in train station towns, and that’s due to not enough housing.)
