A billion dollars is a lot more than 600x what most people make; it's 1000x a million dollars. A "six figure" salary or bonus is only 1/100 of 1% of a billion dollars.

This is just math, and I think most of what I've put in this thread is only stating simple truths without explicit judgment...

In 2023 the Mavericks had an operating income of $158M. From what I can tell, Mark did not take a salary as owner. He owned the team for 23 years and never took a paycheck before selling the team and paying out $35M in bonuses. How much do you think he should have paid out? Give every employee $1M?

  1. Looks like the sale was for 3.5bb, or 100x the bonuses he paid out. He could have shared 10% of the profits with the employees and still made out very well on his initial $285Mm investment

  2. An alternative is worker ownership where the workers own equity in the company and benefit based on how long they've been at the company. The amount paid out would not be based on what a small group of owners dictate. Distribution does not have to rely on the whims of unelected individuals.
