  1. If minors felt comfortable enough to include parents in a conversation about thoughts of suicide, a majority wouldn’t need to call in the first place.

But the pro-life party is more concerned about control over providing life-saving care. Once again showing their lack of real concern for life

  2. The GOP has been a death cult for years, and now that they’re our rulers, they can industrialize it. It’s hard to hide death camps, but easy to hide dispersed dead children.

  3. Did anyone involved in the passage of this law give it even the slightest bit of thought? Because if they did the only conclusion we can draw is that they are Pro-Teen Suicide.

  4. "in unintended ways"

Nope. It's working as intended, i.e., causing more suicides by forcing people to choose between going through with it or having to come out to their angry conservative parents about being LGBTQ and/or about having mental health crises.

MAGAt KKKult is all about eugenics.

  5. This is monstrous because, as usual, cruelty is the point. They're willing to hurt any kid just to be able find a way to punish LGBTQ+ kids. Calling such a service is possibly the last act of someone exercising self agency. Reaching out for help for themselves. And now that has been taken away.

  6. Idaho did you stop to think children might be in danger from their parents! So you’ve left them no where to go for help!

    0
  7. Why? Seriously, what is the possible risk that a teen calling a suicide hotline somehow could somehow go south if their parents aren't part of the conversation? That might be the most myopic, arbitrary example of stupidity of government overreach I have ever seen.

  8. Children are going to die. 🤬 Getting rid of us and subjugating the rest is the point behind this regime and project 2025

  9. Because the parents are often the reason the kids are suicidal, and it's much more important to protect abusive parents, so they don't wind up being held accountable God forbid.

    0
  10. If they had a parent to talk to they would most likely not be calling that line. wtf are they supposed to do when the parents are the ones being the abusers?

    0
  11. OK, so you're a suicidal teen, and you now have to tell your parents you're a suicidal teen before anyone is allowed to help you? Welcome to skyrocketing teen suicide rates in Idaho ...

  12. Idiotic if they could talk to their parents why would they need a hot line ffs what is the matter with you America you are totally fked up

    0
  13. wtf why didn’t the KID think of talking to the PARENT in the FIRST PLACE? Now the CRISIS/SUICIDE HOTLINE is a MEDIATOR????? Next thing you know they’ll be charging your ins(IF you have it) for “saving the day”. THIS is a CRISIS

  14. How do you tell the prostitute at a beauty contest?

Look for the girl with the sash that says Idaho~~

  15. That will be a death sentence for many many of those kids. And I thought Alabama was bad 🤷‍♂️ Congrats Idaho Republicans! 🖕

  16. If these ppl answering the phones are mental health professionals they need their licenses revoked b/c it is unethical to break confidentiality. Parents don’t own children, children have consent choices. Usually they are struggling b/c of a parent/guardian.

  17. Unfortunately any younger children are contemplating suicide, because of parents who aren’t supportive. So why would they ever agree to parental permission? Idaho hasn’t changes since I lived there in 1968.

  18. Republican lawmakers need to be arrested if any of these children commits suicide. It’s no longer freedom of speech, they are actively trying to kill us

  19. Kids as young as FIVE call this line 🥺💔 …and the government made it extremely difficult for them to actually access help 😡 Why are these people so f*cking evil 😡

    0
  20. No that’s fine it’s not a TIME SENSITIVE situation or anything. It’s not like your parents could be the reason you want to kill yourself or anything. This is what wanting traditional authority looks like.

    0
  21. Imagine setting the tone on a suicide prevention hotline call with, "before we continue I'm going to have to make sure your mom and or dad are aware you want to kill yourself, dontcha know. Now how does that sound to you, ya little whipper snapper."

    0
  22. So, your step-father is raping you, and your mother is looking the other way. Or your parents can't handle you being gay. Or you simply can't live up to your parents standards. So you are suicidal. And to get the help you would need, you need to go through your parents. Which seals the deal. No?

    0
  23. This is both heartbreaking and infuriating. I was a suicidal 12-year old being terrorized by a drunken, physically and emotionally abusive mother. She would have knocked me through a wall if she thought I told on her.

  24. It is no surprise that legislators have no ability to consider the unintended consequences of an idiotic law.

  25. If any teen needs a 'parent' to consent, they can use me as their parent. I care more about kids I don't even know than a lot of these kids' biological parents. Half the time, it's the parents causing their kids trauma.

Or better yet, let's form a hotline kids can use instead of this one.

    0
  26. If I were to have called that line it was a large part because of my parents.

Republicans are so scared kids might learn being gay or similar is normal they prefer the kids kill themselves than seek help from professionals.

  27. This is a fucking TERRIBLE policy. As someone who hanged himself in 2010 im speaking from an unfortunate amount of experience. It's obviously not a secret, but as far as i know my dad still doesn't know and id STILL rather he never find out if he doesn't.

  28. If their kids got any more protected they would get shot in schools and die from measles.

What is wrong with these ppl yall?

I’m so glad I’m not a Christian. It would be horrible to have to be this cruel in the name of JESUS

    1
  29. The law is working as intended.

Children are property, not people. That's the conservative world. Parents get to decide what to do with their property, no one else. Especially not the property itself.

    2
  30. This is horrible, even worse than not getting help, this might get them to turn to ChatGPT or another AI that may encourage them to hurt themselves. I don't see how the intent would be anything other than to increase teenage suicide in Idaho.

    0
  31. Sometimes it's because parents are the problem and the reason why they need help. What a shit law by people who do not know how to listen and understand nothing about the dynamics of children in crisis.

  32. Ghostly ballplayer walking out of the cornfield: "Is this Hell?" Idahoan: "No. It's Idaho."

  33. Given a history of physical/sexual abuse, or exposure to violence are common causes of suicidal ideation in children and youth (abuse & violence frequently a result of parental actions), this is the silliest thing I have read in ages On a par with all of RFK Jr’s eugenicist antics at the CDC

  35. The Nazis want gay / trans people to die and they more than happy to kill anyone else who gets in their way.

  36. I feel like Everytime parental consent comes up for cases like this it's from the most shortsighted people ever.

If a teen is willing to call a suicide hotline would you not think they either haven't attempted talking to their parents or understand that is an unsafe thing to do?

    0
  37. Kindergarteners and grade schoolers are calling in? Even adding into the factor of troll/prank phone calls, this seems to demonstrate a serious mental health crisis Idaho cannot or will not address adequately (gotta get parental consent first).

    1
  38. "Providers do not need parental consent if...furnishing the health care service is necessary to prevent death or imminent, irreparable physical injury to the minor child.” "

So, SUICIDE HOTLINES...no excuse for denying this without consent then.

It's imminent risk of death. That's what suicide is.

  39. The most evil part of this is, Kids wouldn't feel so trapped and hopeless if they didn't live in an Actual, Factual, Photo-realistic, Capitalist Oligarchy.

  40. A 5 year old. A child that is in kindergarten called the suicide hotline. This tells me that a child who has only been on this planet for 5 years has suffered immense trauma and was asking for help, but they were told "no" by adults. This country is fucking disgusting

    1
  41. Chances are if they're calling the hotline before talking to their parents then the parents are part of the problem.

    2
  42. So you need parental permission to not kill yourself?

Republicans want your children dead ASAP and are doing everything they can to make it happen.

It remains to be seen how long a political party predicated on doing mortal and material harm to their constituents can remain viable.

    0
  43. The conservatives won't care, even if it's their own child. MAGA parents will just get upset at the awkwardness and embarassment they'll feel over the cause of death, then just blame their dead kid for everything and move on.

Feeling sorrow and guilt are what human parents would experience.

    1
  44. If these teens calling the suicide hotline felt like they could talk to their parents about what they were going through they wouldn't need to call the suicide hotline

    4
  45. "Suicidal ideation is just something that happens at that age. It's really unreasonable to mention it to people" -- Actual earnest quote from a parent who honestly believes they love their daughter who also, somehow, cannot understand why she stopped telling them stuff.

    1
  46. Oh, don’t worry: Idaho also banned abortion, so they’ll just force people to make more kids to replace the ones who couldn’t hack it.

    0
  47. Gee, you'd think this was entirely predictable or something. Like, if they felt they could talk to their parents, then maybe they wouldn't be calling a suicide prevention line...

    0
  48. If the teens felt like they could talk to their parents they would not be calling in the first place. They hung up because they aren't getting the help they need

    1
  49. Who benefits from this parental consent law? Not the teens who call the hotline.

That should be all that anyone needs to know to in order to start figuring out how to get rid of it.

  50. This is what happens when you vote Christo-fascists into office. Such a beautiful state and such a fucked up government. Shame.

  51. WHAT A CROCK OF SHIT..!! These poor kids can’t get any help if their parents are assholes. What a bunch of B U L L S H I T . . ! ! 😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬😡

  52. “Excuse me whilst I go ask my abuser to give permission for me to discuss why their abuse is making me suicidal.” Absolute bastards.

    0
  53. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Can you imagine how much courage and despair it took for those kids to make that call in the first place? Only to be told: "sorry to get your hopes up, but..."

    1
  54. And they call themselves "pro-life"?...

Those children are screaming for help, cuz they do not have it. This is murdered. They are murdering children. Or at least, pushing them to suicide, which is once again, a kind of murder.

    0
  55. How morally absent do you have to be to think 'hey if a kid is thinking about killing themselves, they should get parental consent before they fight for their own life'

    0
  56. I'm glad they put the faces of the disgusting cretins responsible for this legislation in the article. May those children's deaths haunt them forever.

    0
  57. Absolutely insane. Kids who want to (feel comfortable, etc) talk to their parents don’t call the hotline. The hotline is for people who do not feel comfortable talking to somebody else. Does this really need to be spelled out for god sakes? These people are stupid beyond belief

    0
  58. Not only tragic for the teens seeking help. But also for the hotline workers who can’t throw a lifeline to a drowning young person. They will be devastated by these memories.

    0
  59. So, is one of the questions they ask minors, do you have your parents' permission to commit suicide?
