I'd like to think better of our sister and imagine that she was more reinforcing her own cognitive dissonance with dealing with this and it being normalized in our family, but honestly her responding that way kinda fucked me up more than the fact that it happened, so I really don't know.

When I told our sister about it, later that day, she just waved it away by saying that it's "something he's always done" with girls in our family, not giving any thought to how that itself is already fucked up or the specific context of him doing that while misgendering me.

I often find myself thinking about the time an older male relative of mine, a big Trump fan, came up to me from behind and tugged me around the waist saying "how are you, young man?" Simultaneously sexually harassing me and threatening me, and everyone just pretended like they hadn't noticed.
conservatives don't cut you off when you're trans, they just express extreme disgust at your presence and use hateful language to attack you at the vulnerable points they are aware of because you are family, and meanwhile the rest of your family in varying degrees agrees with them
