  1. That's a generous reading given Starmer's rhetoric on this issue. His 'island of strangers' speech. His talk of 'a squalid experiment in open borders'. If he doesn't want to pander to these ideas, he could easily set the record straight. Either he believes this stuff or he's too cowardly to clarify.

And the 'strength of feeling' of everyone - and I'm confident in saying there are fucking millions of us - who don't want to live in a country where racists shout the odds and the rest of us have to accommodate their small-minded ignorance?

    The PM's spokesman tells lobby journalists just now that the Government is not looking at suspending the ECHR (as Reform are demanding)

    But he refused to condemn Farage's language about an "invasion" of illegal migrants, instead saying the PM "recognises" people's "strength of feeling" on the issue
