Poll numbers no longer matter. The fear of retribution, physical safety and threat of primary challenge will keep GOP elected officials in line.

Bad time to be a Constitutional Lawyer or professor. All of past rulings have no bearing on decisions. All of the past judicial philosophies, including original meaning are meaningless. The current SCOTUS majority thinks that not only Trump can break any law, he may also have Line Item veto power.

Agreed. But my point was anywhere close to civil war. Before the Revolutionary War began there were skirmishes (Concord & Lexington) and we sank a British ship. If anything like those incidences occur, then civil war is a lot more possible.

I see no evidence that the non-MAGA faction is anywhere close to waging a civil war. There may be a few lone wolves that will use violence, and a few millions will protest, but the vast majority will tolerate the Trump administration actions and policies - just like people do in Russia, etc.

The establishment has ruined the Democratic brand. Just like Republicans they care more about their power than the country. The party is on life support and unfortunately running Progressive candidates at the state level or in swing districts will only delay their demise.

I don't have any evidence the majority would approve how Trump may handle the situation because it hasn't happened yet. Like you, I too believe a majority may be annoyed. But, no matter how cruel the process, it will end up with a similar reaction as his cruel Immigration policies.

They may not publicly admit it, but the side that would privately prefer the homeless being cleared is significantly larger. The presence of the silent acquiescence to cruelty to the "other" is a major indication that fascism has tightened it grip in our country .

My hunch is that the same people who attended the Hands Off and the No Kings protests are the ones holding the Republican Reps to the fire. For example, Mike Flood didn't seem at all worried and maintained his poise. His dishonesty is the hallmark of MAGA elected officials = shamelessness

It is widely held that post-COVID many companies raised prices to the maximum price the average consumer would pay and companies pocketed those windfall profits. Perhaps tariffs will shift much of those windfall profits to govt coffers.
