My first tech support job interview, I got asked how to do some task in vi. I said, "I don't know, I'd have to look that up in the man pages."
I got the job.

I have foreign coworkers who use spellcheck a lot to get the English spelling right, and my favorite side effect of this is all the times they talk about our "costumers" instead of our "customers".

Yeah no excuses. There were dozens of things I said as a kid back in the 70s and 80s that are horrible. Now I know better. Yes, I had to develop new habits. Yes, sometimes I have to think before I speak. Small price to pay to not be an asshole, in my opinion.

For years I have consoled myself with the fact that Abbott, although he is Governor, lives in a city, and that city passes laws he doesn't like and he still has to follow them. And he so clearly hates that with a fire that scorches his soul, and I love that for him.

I do kinda buy the story that he was standing around looking like an easy mark and some teens walked up and said "Gimme your car, nerd" and he maybe tried to throw a punch and some kid punched him in the nose and he bled like crazy

I got into genealogy a bit and found my nth grandfather left the Schleswig-Holstein region right when Germany was happening, and this is why he kept changing the name of what country he was from every 10 years on the census. His hometown is in Denmark now.
