  1. It will be fitting if what happened during CBP’s hiring binge happens to ICE and they let in a bunch of drug cartel guys and serial killers. Fitting, but not the world I want to live in either

  2. What job can they get next? No employer will want the complications of a former ICE agent. Many of your family, friends, and neighbors will avoid you or refuse you entirely. How do you explain it to your kids? Even young kids grow up and will know the truth. It’s a permanent stain. Deservedly.

  3. Well, of course we only have so many sadists in this country, & only so many mercenary enough to commit foul deeds for money. It is actually encouraging that they are running out of mindless, conscienceless thugs.

  4. So, all the "bad" cops are going to take advantage of this and pump out their chests when they terrorize the neighborhoods. Someone, please go undercover and expose this shit.

  5. it might also signal how unpopular the agency and policies are.

they already seems to have the bottom of the barrel working for them, meaning the morally bankrupt and dudes that couldn't make it in the military or as police.

signing bonus may attract a few who are desperate.

  6. Got to keep your stormtroopers loyal.

Can see who the Trump administration values, and it isn't teachers or healthcare workers or scientists. They're going to have the best paid death squads in the world.

  7. Left off the ICE job description:

Must accept risk of post-Trump Nuremberg-like trials for crimes against humanity committed while a member of ICE

  8. So effectively if you enforce one aspect of our dystopia, you can get a free pass from a DIFFERENT PART of our dystopia?

That 'uncontrollable' part is worrying. Is that a 'we'll pay you for quotas of warm bodies, regardless if your supervisor says you brought in a chihuahua to meet it'?

  9. What if a bunch of human-rights-loving liberals signed up to do the job? They could get past vetting due to understaffing desperation & poor management. They could try to make things more humane from the inside and, failing that, blow the whistle on the worst abuses.

  10. One bit of nuance with the loan forgiveness is that it's probably referencing PSLF, a program available to all federal employees. (But let's be honest, probably not a ton of college grads that want to work for ICE).

  11. I’m sorry did you say STUDENT LOAN FORGIVENESS 😔😔😔😔😔

  12. I'd like to believe they have recruitment issues, but I worry this is more about the authoritarian largesse for its supporters. As a dictator, you always want to make sure favoured groups are on your side, and you do so by being generous with the state coffers.

  13. This the same PSLF Republicans have been trying to kill either directly or indirectly by gutting Dept of Ed? Or is it something else? Wife & I have been fighting to get her loans taken care of & she's YEARS past the required hrs/time needed, but the process is a bureaucratic hellscape--by design. 😠

  15. David Graeber in his book "Debt: The First 5000 Years" documents extensively how debt is the motivation behind a host of history's cruelest actions. Cortez conquering the Aztecs for example. Seeing the same thing in modern day Russia in the fighting in Ukraine.

  16. Every time we mention Trump or his administration, we should preface it by saying the Anti-American Trump administration, the Anti-American Republican party. The Anti-American President needs to be labeled ACCORDINGLY AND ACCURATELY AND CONSISTENTLY

  17. Exactly.

Kias have factory sales every other weekend, because that's how they sell cars.

BMW and Porsche have maybe one sale per year.

Because they can sell their cars at full price.

Same in the military: if you got a signing bonus, it's because we couldn't fill the job without it.

  18. i wonder if i could get the job even though i'm a bleeding heart liberal - i imagine there's a screening process to weed out democrats. the salary and benefits are probably awesome. more DEI for conservatives

  19. I hope a lot of people don't see this as an opportunity to get a signing bonus and then work to sabotage the organization from within. That would be a shame.

  20. I remember when NPR got all upset about Biden trying to forgive student loan debt, citing the national injunction; two years later they had an episode about national injunctions being a way to defeat the will of the people embodied in Trump
