If the "cream of the conservative judicial crop" was a guy who believed the first amendment protected only explicitly political speech, that doesn't say a whole lot for conservative judges.

What's neat about that article is that at 66 pages it's not even close to comprehensive. Nothing substantive about ECtHR, nothing about A v Chief Constable, both of which are IMO errors at least as grave as those the author identified. A full inventory of FWS's errors would run to hundreds of pages.
