  1. Very cool moment: Maybelle Blair, 98 and a pioneer of the All-American Girls Professional League, throws out the first pitch to Mo’Ne Davis at Nationals Park before scrimmages capping tryouts for the Women’s Professional Baseball League.

Maybelle Blair and Mo’Ne Davis shake hands just in front of home plate after Blair throws out first pitch.

  2. Words/phrases Democrats should never use:

    • bipartisan
    • my Republican friends
    • real, valid, legitimate, serious, important (to describe issue raised by Republicans)
    • yea (when voting on Republican bills)
    • distraction (to describe bad thing Republicans did)
    • woke (in derogatory sense)

  3. Same. I keep reading these Kristol comments to my parents (in their 80s) hoping I don't cause a stroke or attack, it's incredible

If you had told me 30 years ago that Michael Luttig and Bill Kristol would have a clearer understanding about what's going on than a lot of Democratic leaders, I'd have wondered whether you tried the brown acid.

  4. Let me see if I have all this: the National Guard/FBI/ICE is in DC, getting in tank accidents and arresting landscapers, delivery people, and the unhoused -- and they're afraid of sandwiches and the eldery.

Stephen Miller: "All these demonstrators that you've seen out here in recent days, all these elderly white hippies, they're not part of the city and never have been ... we're gonna ignore these stupid white hippies that all need to go home and take a nap because they're all over 90 years old."

  5. While we're on the subject, there is also a nice knitting community here on Bsky! I've been too shy to join (mainly because my summer sock project was a bust), but will try again this fall

“Recent studies suggest that slow, tactile tasks, such as knitting, may activate brain systems in ways that support long-term cognitive health in various ways, including engaging memory, attention, and motor function, while helping to regulate stress.”

“Grandma hobbies” like knitting are making a comeback among Gen Z—but it’s not just for nostalgia. Neuroscience shows these tactile pastimes may help preserve brain health as we age.

  6. If you're looking to expand your following section, this is a great thread! (There's also a piece circulating this morning about scientists moving from T-r to Bsky; they actually love engagement and answering questions -- not being attacked! Go figure)

Scientists of Bluesky, introduce yourselves by replying to this post and I’ll share it and help you get some followers!
