Don't read a novel. There are a number of collections of his short stories out there. See if you can find one that includes "The Scythe".

Getting him to play the prickly, hostile, "I am admired for my detestability" character E.K. Hornbeck in INHERIT THE WIND is one of the great stupid casting decisions. It's up there with Kevin Costner as Robin Hood.
