Phew. This is good news!
I confirmed with a source living in Renton: King County is looking into using 7th Street instead of BNSF railway for the Renton segment of the Lake to Sound Trail. The sharrows are a temporary measure while plans for a cycletrack get considered.

I realize that it’s zoned industrial—and I’m a big proponent of rethinking industrial zoning in prime urban areas where the land effectively is used as empty parking lots because its value is held artificially low by industrial zoning.

Seems to be a real bummer—who wouldn’t want to live along a waterway that has relatively easy bike and transit access to both Portland and Vancouver? But instead, we’re building housing further out, leaving this undeveloped hole which will be adjacent to an even bigger highway project.
