I've known her for ten years and the image that has just come together for me is that these churches didn't even bother trying to share the gospel with her (she does not know very much about christianity) even though she was open to it, bc of her parents./
What this boils down to is refusal to share the gospel with someone unless it’s on your terms. And I feel like it is a common problem

to hate gay people so much that you look at a literal child and say "why bother, the whole family's going to hell anyway," while taking their money for camps and activities (they were apparently expensive!!) is unfathomable to me. horrible.
