Been thinking about how I’d define “The Gospel” as a concept. A more Protestant way would be “salvation by grace through faith” but I see the Gospel as more broadly representing the coming of God’s kingdom. John 1:1-18 is a good summary of that, alongside the three songs in Luke 1-2

Genesis 1 and John 1 are where I go to reframe my mind to the bigger picture.

It also highlights that the natural universe would be good and beautiful whether or not God ever created humans. He didn’t NEED to create us to admire and study His handiwork but He did.

The refrain “God saw that it was good” always hits me when I read Gen 1. I think one of the reasons I find that chapter so moving is not that God creates the world like a painter paints. It’s that it frames the gifts of nature as just that. It helps me feel a sense of constant gratitude towards God.

I think this is possibly more a problem in some evangelical circles where the beginning and end of preaching is to announce to someone they have to repent and move on, like checking off a box. But it’s also how close-doored Catholic parishes work, usually under the guise of liturgy or something.

“If you wanna be let into our group you better apologize to me right now” is functionally how many preachers work. It makes it super easy to dismiss someone. Well they didn’t repent, too bad for them. I mean I TOLD them to, loudly.

What this boils down to is refusal to share the gospel with someone unless it’s on your terms. And I feel like it is a common problem

The part they left out of the last supper accounts in the gospels was when someone whipped out a ten string lute and did a contemporary version of psalm 113

Bethesda is basically known for making a bunch of NPCs that are cookie cutter looking and written like a DM came up with them on the spot. Oblivion was even worse

Skyrim is special, as a fantasy sandbox and as a baseline experience that can be modded into something even better
