NYC shooter had two 'mental health holds' in Las Vegas. They didn't affect his legal right to own guns

  1. The 2nd Amendment says NOTHING about every single person gets a gun regardless of their ability to safely use one! The NRA has created a society that believes weapons of war are their right! Nutters.

  2. Wow, this is almost identical to the shooter situation in Montana. The family told people he didn't know where or when he was but could not get him help or have his guns taken away. Welcome to the new MAGA GOP.

  3. just a citizen expressing his 2nd amendment rights .. remember, Guns are designed to kill. If guns are present in a community, their purpose will eventually be fulfilled, people will die. Those deaths are not an accident, they are evidence that the Second Amendment is being exercised as intended.

  4. Huh. That seems like brilliant policy, let the crazies have guns no matter how many mental health holds. It's like when I was little & my parents would see accident after accident at certain intersections & they'd say, nobody will do anything about it until someone gets killed...except that doesn't

  5. Seriously, who believed a "mental health hold" was going to stop anyone, that's not what it's for. It's only meant as a sop to anyone wanting to limit gun rights in any way.

  6. You would think after two "assassination attempts" gun control for at least those suffering mentally would've been top priority for dear leader👀

  7. Face it, even if he had not been legally permitted to buy firearms he very likely would not have had much issue either stealing them or buying them illegally.

  8. Another victory for the republicans and the gun lobby. 92 percent of the population. wants stricter gun laws but the republicans love money.

  9. I think I read that he bought a gun from an individual. In a lot of states no background check is needed or required for this kind of transaction.

  10. But back to the Epstein story…..which of course matters in that until he is gone nothing changes and nothing else matters.

  11. It depends on the holds and the diagnosis. My sister was subject to 2 mental health holds, both for anorexia. I have a number of mental health diagnoses, Anxiety, Depression, Reactive Attachment Disorder, PTSD, and ADHD, none keep me from owning a gun. My depression is treated.

  12. "diagnosed with multiple mental illnesses" "the subject of two "mental health holds" in Las Vegas"... but none of that limited his legal right to own firearms. They'll be makin' him POTUS next...

  13. Way to go NRA - the immoral, Russian-funded death cult. Pro-life my ass.

  14. I’ll never understand the nothing can abridge my 2nd amendment rights crowd.

  15. The amazing thing is the GOP blames mental health and then drastically cuts Medicaid—which makes gun reform the only option.

  16. We have over 100 fixable problems yet we are dealing with administration hell bent on increasing that number.

  17. MAGA: Even psychos should celebrate exercising their 2nd amendment rights.

You'd think that even MAGA might draw a red line at attacking the NFL. But, no.

Also: MAGA = mentally ill. Is it the water?

  18. And based on the Republican death wish for everybody, I don’t see how they would ever support any legislation that would prevent people who are not of sound mind to not have weapons. We know that this isn’t news. The question is media, why aren’t you putting the pressure on this? We’re out there…

  19. When whoever deleted those two sections from the Constitution website, they should’ve also deleted the 2nd Amendment

  20. I can’t stop thinking of the cop he murdered. The cop had just graduated from the police academy in March. He must have been so proud of himself and excited for his future. Now he’s dead. It’s too sad and senseless.

  21. In 2017, Trump made it easier for people with mental illnesses to own guns. Trump-GOP supports gun violence. An NRA convention was held in Texas a few days after the Uvalde shooting.

American children are wondering why adults aren't protecting them from #GunViolence

In 2017, Trump quietly rolled back an Obama-era regulation that made it harder for people with mental illness to buy guns.

  22. Now if only he and his loved ones could have afforded the education and healthcare he needed, so that he would not of listened to MAGA propaganda and believed conspiracies that weren’t true.

  23. Let's gloss over that there was a Luigi component to this and go right to the mental illness. If you don't know what I'm talking about, look up the realty executive that was killed in the shooting. He didn't go to the wrong floor.

  24. Yeah, in the 🍊🍕💩 1st admin the very 1st law the GOP passed was to allow people with mental illness to buy firearms

  25. I'm in favor of much tougher gun control laws. But mental health holds can be instituted by family members, including putative spouses, for reasons other than the mental health of the individual. Courts shouldn't deprive an individual of a Constitutionally protected right w/o due process.

  26. Republicans talking points are “They want to take our guns.” That’s all they’ve been taught to say. They won’t reason through the arguments or have an adult conversation. It’ll be a version of “don’t take my guns.” It’s the equivalent of a child sticking their fingers in their ears shouting lalala!

  27. Which New York City "Mass Shooter"? The latest? The one from the subway in Brooklyn? We've had a lot of "Mass Shooters"... Be more specific! Do your job!

  28. Why do we keep hearing stories like this ? How they knew about him , but could do nothing ! Then a mass shooter! We need mental health facilities, not concentration camps!

  29. And somehow this shooter could easily buy an assault weapon in Nevada. Only in America does this happen.

  30. And why is it ok that he could still legally own firearms? … that is not even respectful to the individual, let alone the rest of the world around wherever he is. Is it simply because it is too difficult to enforce if that law was changed?

    0
  31. well, yeah. If the 2nd Amendment is a civil right, despite civil rights not existing until the 14th Amendment, you can't keep crazy people from buying guns.

unfortunately, SCOTUS decided the 2nd Amendment was written with the 14th in mind because Thomas Jefferson had a time machine.
