And the court, which has access to far more information than you or I, is supposed to be in the best position to judge what is an appropriate consequence for the accused. The public's desire to impose further consequence based on rumours around what happened is why we have name suppression.

It's really not. The sentence is supposed to be the consequence, not enable unspecified other consequences. You might not agree that the court in any particular case has given an adequate consequence, but there's a lot of that about.
