  1. I thought exactly the same when I read this the other day … “didn’t he write the opposite at the time?”.

  2. I for one applaud every person who changes their mind, and today's article by Simon Jenkins is actually good. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Keir Starmer is not blameless when it comes to Brexit, but he is moving in the right direction. Even the Tories attacking him know that, says Guardian columnist Simon Jenkins

From the day Britain left the EU, this reset was inevitable. What a pointless waste of time, money and effort | Simon Jenkins

  3. People vote against their interests all the time.

All politicians need to do is lie to enough people and discourage the rest from voting.

Republicans are great at this 😁

  4. Simon Jenkins! Why would anyone waste time on reading any text from that guy after seeing this?

  5. It really is impressive how often Jenkins has managed to be utterly wrong about just about everything, and still hold onto his job.

  6. When he was chairman of the National Trust I believe he was known as one of the 'twins of evil'.

  7. Brexit was never going to be good for Britain. The experts (of whom Gove had had enough) pretty much all said so.

Ah, 'we told you so' evokes regret when reality comes home to roost. Finally.

  9. He does specifically say the words "I was wrong" and I believe in change, and those words are hard. But why do these people never listen in the first place? Deeper thought is needed than being wrong about one thing at a time with him.

  10. And yet, rather than being shunned and living in a cardboard box under a bridge, this asshole still has a job "writing" for the Guardian. #WhitePrivilege

    @sst69.bsky.social

From June 2016, i.e. he changed his mind after the result went against him. A man of conviction 😁

  12. I am glad someone is is reminding the idiots of their past. I just don't get how these rabid brexiteers can do so much damage and then act all innocent.

  13. But there was no reset: factory reset is back to the default settings, ie to the starting point of being a EU member in this context, which UK has not achieved not even budged a bit 🤏

  14. You can sort of understand young journalists feeling pressured, in the current media environment, into the world of hot take writing, where you’re constantly hostage to fortune. But Sir Simon Jenkins..?

How do you get a gig like Jenkins'? If I was so consistently wrong in my job I'd be permanently unemployed.

  16. How did anybody, especially those who proclaim to be in politically savvy, ever expect brexit to work and be beneficial in any way?

    2
  17. Simon Jenkins, I do not take to be a serious political commentator. I honestly don't know how he gets the gig.

  18. At least he didn’t do what Farage did: 7 minutes after the result of the referendum was announced he said that the £265M per week for the NHS was “ a mistake”..,

  19. Wow! He admits he was wrong in thinking Brexit would be good. He also says people who said it would be good should apologise. But then he fails to apologise himself. He says clearly that Brexit should be undone. And yet still lacks the courage to apologise himself.

Without me reading, should I assume at no point does he ever acknowledge he was wrong

  21. At least he admits he’s wrong:

“I once opposed EU membership as I thought on balance that a looser free trade area, like the European Free Trade Association, was more in line with Britain’s place in the world. In retrospect, I was wrong. ”

  22. I’d been following Simon Jenkins since his Evening Standard days and I never thought he was a proponent for leaving the EU. Alas, I misjudged him. Can the Labour Party start turning the heat up on the elites who canvassed for the UK to leave. The snake oil salesmen/women who forecasted el dorado

  23. I genuinely don't know anyone personally who did not recognise Brexit at the time for what it was, - fraudulent, corrupt and would degrade Britain.

So Simon Jenkins, once a rational and well-respected journalist, should now apologise publicly for his political dissimulation.

  24. Without using hearsay, twisted/skewed stats/truths, guesses, headlines, conspiracy theories, and bullshit, can you prove that the ongoing process of Brexit is not working?

    1
  25. I read the second article earlier on and it's pretty sensible, but I was thinking "didn't Simon Jenkins write some brexiteer horse shit?"

    So thanks for confirming.

  26. Very interesting timeline, I lauded Jenkins article from today in my morning post but I can clearly see the hypocrisy illustrated here:)

  27. The ultimate feather for each wind that blows. Never read him. Another Grauniad Columnist, Owen Jones, would not like you to know that as a Corbyinist, he supported Brexit for quite a while.

  28. Brexit supporters now supporting the reset because they know the real pressure is rejoin and they want us to be happy with crumbs.

  29. Thank you for this. I knew it was there somewhere and remember them both. I'm not really into dissing commentators but I have always wondered how he keeps his job. Perhaps with Tortoise Media onboard he is more aligned with the group nowadays?

Another graduate of PPE at Oxford. For the safety of the nation someone really ought to close down that programme. It has done untold damage to the economy.

Read this many years ago. Still holds completely true! The media has been a malignant force in British politics and the severity has only got worse!!

  32. It's all just a game to these fools. They don't give a damn about the outcome for regular workaday Brits. He probably has dual nationality, so he's not backed up at the border crossing on the way to his vacation home in Spain or France.

  33. It’s handy to have your finger on the pulse of things. That incl. when every scrap of Gov paper on all reports said it was going to be a disaster & then either not reading it or ignoring it.

    #SimonJenkins is an bloody idiot.

  34. In the more recent article, Jenkins admits he was wrong and has changed his mind. When we fall into error(we all do) we should be able to change our minds, and we want Brexit supporters to change their minds don't we.

  35. You really try to ignore the Good News about Brexit, don't you? The Good News is that Simon Jenkins has not aged at all between 2016 and 2025, judging by his photos.

  36. Simon Jenkins is never knowingly correct about anything.

He should move to the Daily Telegraph. It's the spiritual home of every columnist who doesn't have a clue what they're talking about.
