  1. You could see that from the Falklands War, which was just a tiny punch up by comparison. It took, literally, 100% of the UK defence resources at that time, plus a shed load of vintage equipment, that shouldn't have even been considered useful, to win. And then only by the skin of our teeth!

  2. Conventional wisdom used to be, (in the 70s and 80s), that any future, major european war would have to go nuclear after just 7 days. The west just didn't have the resources to survive, conventionally, any longer than that, (even with US involvement). I don't think that has ever changed.
