This isn't meant to be a gotcha question, but something that never ceases to amaze me is why centrist voters are put off by Democrats using the word "patriarchy", and not by Republicans saying "slavery wasn't too bad after all".
What's the source of this asymmetry?
I'm not sure you're right about them not being put off, but I suspect some of them say "Well, he's just a dumb guy" but hear a Dem say "patriarchy" and think "This person thinks he's smarter than me and is looking down on me."
Actually they're put off by both, and not even both equally.
It's that they look at that, then look at us, and don't exactly find a "home" in what we have to say.
