With UK no longer in EU to block every proposal, the 500 million people within the world’s richest bloc of nations can finally create an integrated military force to defend itself and its values of liberal democracy.
I loathe Brexit, but will admit this is a very valuable Brexit benefit.
Although I despise Brexit, but I think we’re watching in real-time the most important Brexit benefit of all.
For decades as a prominent EU member, UK’s strong opposition to creating a singular, integrated military force killed-off all proposals from other members to create an “EU army”…
In UK alone, that led to Brexit, and the idiot Johnson (with Russian money) becoming PM, and now, Farage is favourite to become next PM….
That moment Obama let Putin cross his red lines (I think Obama actually called them his “lines in the sand”) in Syria is still playing out in UK and Europe today
Putin took it as carte blanche to decimate the Syrian population - who desperately fled to Europe…
This massive influx of refugees from Syria caused turmoil in European politics… empowering far-right parties throughout Europe…

I loathe Brexit - but if UK leaving EU from Brexit has enabled the worlds largest and richest bloc of nations to finally create a large single effective military force to protect and defend EUs 450 million people, then maybe Brexit hasn’t been all bad…
For decades up to 2020 when UK officially left EU, it was the UK who effectively killed all proposals by EU to create a singular military force to defend itself…
Now UK has left EU, the Europeans have no strong opponent in EU stopping the creation of an EU military force to defend itself…
I despise Brexit… but perhaps a massive Brexit benefit will be Europe rearming and taking responsibility for its own defence…

Europe had notice from the US since 2009 (if not earlier) that US will significantly withdraw from European defence…
You’re absolutely right, UK and Europe had 16 years to act, but did nothing and still rely on US to defend us.
I totally agree with you - but I think the shift in US policy began before Trump…
I seem to remember a White House press conference early in his first term Obama indicating a major shift in US foreign policy from focussing on Europe towards prioritising Asia…
