It might have been a factor in the number of small boat crossings but not in the number of people entering the UK. Smuggling of people in large numbers existed when we were in the EU. They were just hidden in lorry's and vans and small boats. Some were detected. Most weren't 🤔

We had control of our borders. Like with other EU countries we could have dictated registration of other EU nationals and minimum funds for entry.
But our govt never enforced it and the media refused to correct anyone who said otherwise (like Mr Farage)
