When the Biden-era ACA subsidies kicked in, I was able to buy health insurance. I had been without health insurance for four years by that time.

It looks like I will not be able to purchase my health care yet again. Thanks, Trump voters. This is on you.

  1. Trump voters would sooner let members of their own families go without affordable healthcare just to “own the libs.”

This is an irrational death cult that won’t stop until most of America has been Jonestowned.

  2. While I’m sorry for your position, I truly believe the only way to get people to stop vote for Trump/GOP is to get hurt hard in the pocket book. Not Ukraine, not Gaza, not wars, not Epstein, not vaccines, etc. Nope. Personal money is single biggest driver of change. And needs to be 3rd degree burns.

  3. Losing jobs, insurance, medical access (vaccines, hospitals) sure as fuck won't get factories under tariffs, farms failing, infrastructure funding lost, no fema or even data collection. Guess they all finally got what they voted for for the past 30 years.

  4. I'm so lucky I worked where I did. I could get insurance relatively cheaply. I'm now faced with having to worry at 70 years old about Medicare coverage. I cannot go back to work. Who would hire me!

  5. I’m sorry Jess. I hate this for everyone facing it.

Whenever I faced such, I would cope by joking:

It’s not a lack of a health plan, it’s the ‘Just Don’t Get Sick’ health plan. No premiums or yearly physicals here! Just don’t get sick and make sure it’s someone else’s fault if you get injured.

  6. Yes, ACA was a life saver for myself and my partner. I'm waiting to see how much of a hike will occur for me. And curious what will happen with out of pocket costs.

  7. Imagine just how much actual healthcare we could have if we didn't spend the whole pot on a nationwide "insurance" scam.

  8. Vaccines may become scarce. I read that one woman and her daughter got the last 2 Covid shots in her county bc RFK,Jr has not approved any new ones. Lots of people are going to get sick and die as a result.

  9. I have been without health insurance most of my life. When MO finally put me on MoHealthNet, it was a great relief and it saved me when I had triple hernia surgery. I'm so thankful and now it pays my premium for Medicare B. But now I will probably lose that and will have no insurance again.

  10. Trump enablers who do nothing to make life better for the vast majority of us. Whatever they say, nothing changes the facts that food costs MORE, gas costs MORE, and and health insurance premiums in 2026 could DOUBLE per KFF

KFF reports health insurance premiums in 2026 could double when Trump ends the ACA subsidies

  11. Yep. 21% increase here and it already consumes the second largest chunk of my paycheck. The ACA was damaged by GOP at its onset but it was at least better than the prior plans. Now it's unaffordable already and set to get worse. Where's their wonderful replacement that's eternally two weeks out?

  12. I'm in the same boat. Premiums were already sky-high. At this rate, it might be cheaper to just put the money in the bank and pay for health care out of pocket, rolling the dice that nothing really bad happens from a health standpoint.

  13. This is so wrong for you and millions of others. What the fat cat Republicans in Congress don't "get" or care about is the effects on Americans of all ages. Example, it will hit the fan when mama must leave the nursing home & someone has to quit their job and lifestyle to provide 24/7 care at home.

  14. So many people will lose health insurance due to Trump. This will hit ACA plans and private insurance this year, well before the Medicaid cuts kick in.

  15. I am in the same boat. Didn't have insurance for, get this, 22 years. Was so happy to finally have it at the age of 60. I told my son that at least I didn't get used to having it. So many people are going to suffer due to this horrible administration.

  16. If we lose pre-existing conditions I will be in trouble......but, Covid is now considered a pre-existing condition, too.....

  17. I've lived for years with no health insurance and I get the fear and anxiety that causes, I'm sorry you're dealing with this

  18. Health care in the USA is really FUBAR. FYI, non-ACA insurance is affordable IF you are in perfect health. They have large deductibles, so they really only act as catastrophic insurance (and they would prolly try to find some way to not pay) but it might be something to consider.

  19. Losing the Enhanced Healthcare tax exemption is going to keep millions of Americans off healthcare and hospital dependent. Insurance carriers are hedging their profits now due to the Medicaid Cuts in 2027 Expect 15 to 25% health insurance increases for 2026!

  20. My daughter uses the ACA for health insurance. I am hoping she will be able to keep what she has and be able to afford it.

  21. I hope all my dumbfuck MAGA neighbors in Missouri are satisfied giving up their healthcare for a 6’ pine box.

At least they owned the libs too though, right?

  22. But also on Missourians… if you don’t get leadership at the state level that is for the people … it will always be on election away from people being kicked off insurance, without food, or unable to find homes..

  23. This is exactly what they wanted. Their default strategy is always a regression to the lowest denominator. Think of it like this: a broken dam leaves all boats grounded.

  24. Yeah, mine is going to jump up also. Whoohoo! With a wife with Lupus! Hooray for sweet fascist fuck overs! Thanks America. You fucking morons.

  25. Every Independent Sovereign Democracy in the 1st world. Has at the point of use free health care. Paid by a deduction in gross wage/Salary. Not more than 10%. Ireland =3.5% What is the Social Security +Private Health cover + out of pocket expenses. Are you all Thick Knuckle Dragging Numbnuts. 🇮🇪🇪🇺

  26. I'm retired. But when working. 3.5% was deducted from my Gross wage. It covered my family. My wife five births. My hernia. My Angioplasty with Stent. Sepsis 3 weeks In hospital. My middle sons emergency appendix. My eldest asthma. Widows and Widowers pension old age pension @66 and Orphans college

  27. My MAGA SIL in SW MO, who relies on the ACA for health insurance, saw her premium triple. She's about 5 years away from that other Socialist scheme, Medicare. May she get what she voted for!

  28. I'm so sorry.

Everyone is being affected by maga politics. Here in Louisiana, SNAP recipients now have to jump through hoops for training and jobs. The system isn't set up, and people don't have the info/tools they need.

Poor MO. I pray for your state, it is so red. We are barely America anymore.

  29. I’m sorry Jess, your not alone dear💙 My own oncologist says they’re losing a whole generation of Doctors and healthcare workers. Praying for change🙏🏾🙏🏾 Lord have mercy.😓

  30. Not sure what we are going to do. Without the subsidies, not sure I can afford my son’s insurance. He has severe crohns & his shot every 8 weeks is $8k, plus he has to have a yearly colonoscopy & because he doesn’t “look sick”, no disability. He very possibly could die.

  31. To make matters worse you’ll be hit with a tax penalty when you file next. Somebody is getting money. Either the government or private insurance, once again showing it ain’t about the people it’s about the profits.

  32. Insurance is a scam. The insurance companies regulates what they will and will not cover. Of course they won't cover things that are most expensive. Or chronic and go on for a long time. And they can change their prices at any time. We need M4A. Insurance companies are a bad joke.

  33. If a lot of people drop insurance, and a lot of people get kicked off Medicaid, I suspect the doctors and hospitals will have a lot of unpaid bills. They are still required to treat those people.

    3
  34. It won't be just Missouri that gets hit. Small business owners across the country, in particular, rely on the ACA.

    0
  35. Short sighted thinking that making health insurance unaffordable will save money. Comparing that cost to an emergency room visit because of a lack of regular health care is a losing proposition.

    0
  36. Most don't know that Obamacare and ACA are the same thing. Nor do they understand how the healthcare subsidies work. Plus, they didn't expect their representatives to betray them.

  37. That sucks Jess. I would reach out to a health insurance broker. Hopefully they can find you something affordable. Or ask your local auto insurance agent, they may have a good connection.

  38. The problem is relying on private companies to finance medical care through the scam that is private insurance companies.

People need medical care, not insurance.

Insurance will always work to maximize profit.
