  1. Not sure it’s political, but it certainly feels like this is a result of incompetence, a lack of preparation, and the diversion of funding to programs that presented greater ROI to Republican politicians in TX.

75% of Kerr voted for Trump!

  3. It's so political. A local "most senior elected official" in Kerr County said they didn't install any advance warning systems, because they're expensive & "tax payers won't pay for it". Another horrible example of FAFO, this time with deadly & tragic consequences, paid by innocent kids & families. šŸ’”

Politics impact every aspect of our lives. And if they don’t yet impact you than you are extremely privileged or you just don’t give a damn about others. Perhaps both.

Republicans never want to spend money for the ā€œgreater good.ā€ They’ll when the money is going to line their pockets.

Add in the cuts to NOAA / NWS by DOGE and you have the perfect ignorant storm.

  8. It's only political in the sense that Texas republicans, who do crap like sue OTHER states about their "fraudulent" vote counts, get VERY stingy for anything that will help people. These things cost money; Texas will only pay 5%. 400 died from uninsulated transformers, now 100 from unwarned flood

  9. Nearly 90 confirmed dead - so far.

    That's political, too.

"Warning systems cost too much." "They won't work anyway." "Eight years ago officials debated ..." "We need a close examination what happened." (Taken from NYT reporting.)

Mike Johnson: "We feel helpless." "All we know to do is pray."

  10. I hope every Texan sees this and thinks again when they elect these corrupt, climate deniers... Cruz and Abbott have children's blood on their hands.

  11. Across the country, Republicans have blood and deaths on their hands, from environmental degradation to gun violence to healthcare cuts to the refusal to address public safety problems.

    This is who they are.

  12. Even if media won't, we should refer to these disaster victims as what they are: Martyrs on the altar of small government. Blood sacrifices required for tax cuts.

Republicans asked for this. The blood children is on their hands, & they should spend every day trying to wash out their damned spots.

  13. I foresee a lot of lawsuits for Wrongful Death against the local GOP Officials personally, for those who decided to refuse the help that should/could/would have prevented these horrible Consequences! What reasoning can be used to NOT claim any and every bit of Federal help for preventative actions!

Biden had FEMA on the ground before catastrophic flooding and hurricanes! This administration is incompetent!

  15. Lets not forget Abbott put death traps along the Rio Grande on the Texas border to kill migrants. He could have saved 80 lives. Instead they chose this.

  16. THis, BTW, is why the GOP is emptying such agencies - no one to point out the grave dangers - particularly as climate change makes ALL regions potentially dangerous

  17. ā€œIt was just, I hate to say the word priorities…trying not to raise taxes.ā€ No overstating the predominance ā¬†ļø, how fundamental to nearly every issue in TX local gov.My fellow Texans are lying to themselves if they say they don’t recognize this in their local communities. www.wsj.com/us-news/offi...
