It is political.

Sheesh. Could they be any more derelict.

What's the source of this? If true, it needs to be put on blast by the press.

Not sure itās political, but it certainly feels like this is a result of incompetence, a lack of preparation, and the diversion of funding to programs that presented greater ROI to Republican politicians in TX.
75% of Kerr voted for Trump!
Kerr Cty. demographics:

All an attempt to take our minds off "climate change".

Shameful.
-
Think of all the elections since, when voters could have chosen otherwise. They continue to pick Barabbas.
-
Republicans made this their policy choice all by themselves. #FAFO
-
The federal government has been trying to give Texas more money for healthcare also, which has been systematically rejected. Itās about not appearing to be like a blue state on a day to day basis but taking the big bail outs when that fails.
-
What is the original source of the screenshot? I've been compiling an ongoing list for myself
-
It's so political. A local "most senior elected official" in Kerr County said they didn't install any advance warning systems, because they're expensive & "tax payers won't pay for it". Another horrible example of FAFO, this time with deadly & tragic consequences, paid by innocent kids & families. š

Negligent homicide if true.

This is what small government looks like. You want flood sensors? Install your own.

It is murder!

So Repubs are responsible for the 82+ deaths. Shameful.

Sad

It's Abbott.

Politics impact every aspect of our lives. And if they donāt yet impact you than you are extremely privileged or you just donāt give a damn about others. Perhaps both.

Republicans never want to spend money for the āgreater good.ā Theyāll when the money is going to line their pockets.

Sounds about right

Add in the cuts to NOAA / NWS by DOGE and you have the perfect ignorant storm.

is this in the press anywhere?

Would love a source on thisā¦

Texas lawmakers failed to pass a bill to improve local disaster warning systems this year
A GOP state lawmaker who represents Kerr County says he likely would vote differently now on House Bill 13, which would have established a grant program for counties to build new emergency communicati...

It's only political in the sense that Texas republicans, who do crap like sue OTHER states about their "fraudulent" vote counts, get VERY stingy for anything that will help people. These things cost money; Texas will only pay 5%. 400 died from uninsulated transformers, now 100 from unwarned flood
-
Nearly 90 confirmed dead - so far.
That's political, too.
"Warning systems cost too much." "They won't work anyway." "Eight years ago officials debated ..." "We need a close examination what happened." (Taken from NYT reporting.)
Mike Johnson: "We feel helpless." "All we know to do is pray."

Texas Republican legislators voted down all proposed safety enhancements and protections for people.

SOURCE?!?!

The same way that they ignored warnings about their electrical grid, which failed and people died!

sue the shit out of em. Break the county, then maybe they will listen.

AND politicians have ignored information of how climate change makes these disasters more likely. See a 2024 report from a British Actuary Group: actuaries.org.uk/news-and-med...
Climate Scorpion ā the sting is in the tail | Institute and Faculty of Actuaries
āClimate Scorpion ā the sting is in the tailā shows that climate risks are complex, interconnected, and could threaten the basis of our society and economy.

I hope every Texan sees this and thinks again when they elect these corrupt, climate deniers... Cruz and Abbott have children's blood on their hands.
-
Across the country, Republicans have blood and deaths on their hands, from environmental degradation to gun violence to healthcare cuts to the refusal to address public safety problems.
This is who they are.
-
Even if media won't, we should refer to these disaster victims as what they are: Martyrs on the altar of small government. Blood sacrifices required for tax cuts.
Republicans asked for this. The blood children is on their hands, & they should spend every day trying to wash out their damned spots.
-
I foresee a lot of lawsuits for Wrongful Death against the local GOP Officials personally, for those who decided to refuse the help that should/could/would have prevented these horrible Consequences! What reasoning can be used to NOT claim any and every bit of Federal help for preventative actions!

Link to info?

Biden had FEMA on the ground before catastrophic flooding and hurricanes! This administration is incompetent!

Vote them out.
-
Lets not forget Abbott put death traps along the Rio Grande on the Texas border to kill migrants. He could have saved 80 lives. Instead they chose this.
-
THis, BTW, is why the GOP is emptying such agencies - no one to point out the grave dangers - particularly as climate change makes ALL regions potentially dangerous
-
And now is the time to call them out

Thoughts and prayers. Can't fix stupid.

āIt was just, I hate to say the word prioritiesā¦trying not to raise taxes.ā No overstating the predominance ā¬ļø, how fundamental to nearly every issue in TX local gov.My fellow Texans are lying to themselves if they say they donāt recognize this in their local communities. www.wsj.com/us-news/offi...
