My theology prof would add extra credit questions on exams about Metallica but you never knew what was extra credit and what was real credit. My Celtic studies prof looked like Ian Holm and most of our assignments had to be written in poetry form and performed.

HWAET????? 😱

This feels very adjacent to how women's lived experience is treated by medical professionals. Even though women are giving doctors data about how a med or treatment is affecting them, this will be discounted because the "research" (only done on young men) is considered superior.

I mean...we lived through the p-hacking scandal. When numbers are considered the only "real" data, then they can be manipulated beyond reality. There's a real hubris in "the only real way of knowing is my method" which actively discounts how humans have learned for thousands of years.

"The average child sexual predator’s profile is: married, male, white, heterosexual, religious, surrounded by friends and family, and a parent. If you put that all together, you get the average, church-going husband or father."
Who Is The Average Child Sexual Predator?
Child molesters are as equally married, educated, employed, and religious as any other Americans.

Found this living in Amsterdam. Everyone wants the dream of living in a canal house, but no one wants the terrifyingly steep stairs, wonky floors or weirdly angled beams that cut rooms in half. Even then my renovated 1920's place had a pitch so steep in the lounge, my ikea bookcase couldn't stand!

YES! I feel like a lot of white people in general don't know how to accurately feel out danger. Often people come to big cities and get freaked out by really normal things just because they are different. But they're totally fine with a super violent relative who is an actual danger. It's like 😬

This was in my grandma's minivan window, the car smelled like air freshener and cigarettes. The fluffy blue covers on the seats were matted down where Grandpa's behind landed. This is what the 80s felt like as a kid.
What people think they 80s were like versus what the 80s was actually like.

It's so frustrating because it plays on our very nature to doubt ourselves or be hard on ourselves for not remembering names. It's a new part of online hygiene of not even questioning and blocking immediately. If someone really knows me, they'll find me.

I cannot tell you how much the blocking function has made my online life so much easier. Even if someone's just rude, I'm like, I literally never have to hear from you again. It also makes me feel great that Blacksky has taken off. Knowing that others have a safe place makes me feel safe.
